"The Aphrodite Project" Overview
The Aphrodite Project is about the passion of living creatively, joyously, and energetically despite the existence of the internal and external chaos brought on by a cancer diagnosis. Named after the Greek goddess, Aphrodite, the project, like the goddess, is meant to inspire passion by the involvement in a creative art project.
Individuals with life-changing illness, referred to as creators were matched with professional artists in order to create a collaborative piece of art. The definition of art could include any of the visual arts, performing arts, music, or writing.
There are endless implications of this project, not only for the individuals involved, but for families and friends of cancer patients as well as the community at large. Of great importance to each of The Aphrodite Project's participants was that their voices and their stories be heard in order to enhance understanding of what it is like to live with cancer as well as to remind everyone, with or without a cancer experience that life is meant to be honored, celebrated, and lived to its fullest.
Look closely at their artwork, listen deeply to their music, and hear their stories with an attentive ear. Their wisdom is profound.
